Medicare Costs in 2025: Historical Reference
These figures apply to 2025 only and are not current rates. For current costs, use Medicare.gov’s cost page.
Part A in 2025
For people who needed to buy Part A, CMS listed a reduced monthly premium of $285 for those with at least 30 qualifying quarters and a full monthly premium of $518 for certain people with fewer than 30 quarters. Most beneficiaries did not pay a Part A premium. The inpatient hospital deductible was $1,676 per benefit period. Hospital coinsurance was $419 per day for days 61–90 and $838 per lifetime reserve day in 2025.
Part B in 2025
The standard monthly Part B premium was $185 and the annual deductible was $257. Some people paid a higher premium based on income and filing status. For many Part B services, coinsurance applies after the deductible; the amount depends on the service and whether the provider accepts assignment.
Part D and supplemental coverage
Drug plan and Medigap premiums vary by policy. Part D may also have an income-related adjustment separate from the Part B adjustment. Original Medicare has no annual out-of-pocket limit for Part A and B services; a Medigap policy may help with specified cost sharing, while Medicare Advantage plans have their own limits and coverage rules.
